About Me

Derek Russell is thrilled to be joining Seeds of Health as a Social Studies teacher at Tenor Journal Square High School. He has professional experience educating 6th-12th grade students in a variety of topics, from U.S. and world history to current events and government.

Derek holds a bachelor’s degree in Secondary Education with a Social Studies emphasis from the University of Wisconsin–Eau Claire.

When not teaching, Derek loves playing cribbage and spending time on the water fishing or water skiing. Derek moved to Milwaukee in June 2025; since then, he has loved taking the time to learn the city’s history and explore its hidden gems. 

“I am looking forward to connecting with a variety of students and staff at Seeds of Health. There are ample opportunities to walk alongside students in major milestones of their life, and I am excited to watch them grow and thrive in a positive learning environment that sets them up for their future. I hope that I can learn from students, as I can also help them learn!”
