About Me

Mary Thorson, an English teacher at Tenor Journal Square, joined Seeds of Health in 2022. Since then, she has taught Writer’s Workshop to Freshmen and English 11 to Juniors. She teaches primarily writing and composition with a focus on non-fiction and media literacy. 

Before teaching, Mary worked as a journalist for TMJ4 for seven years. 

She holds a bachelor’s degree in English from the University of Wisconsin–Milwaukee, a Master of Fine Arts in English from Pacific University, and a certificate in Secondary English Education from the University of Wisconsin–Milwaukee. 

An extrovert, Mary is drawn to teaching because of the opportunity it affords to interact daily with a variety of students, especially through Seeds of Health’s community-oriented and relationship-based teaching model. She loves spending time with her husband, two girls, and her dog, Pam. Her hobbies include reading, writing, walking, and watching scary movies.
